Summer Fellowship Highlight - Machine Learning & AI

Fellowship Director Dr. Esmael Haddadian, and Dr. Ross Hyman (Research Computing Center) presided over a wonderful set of presentations to cap off the Machine Learning & AI Fellowship.

The symposium was the culmination of the Summer Fellowship with poster presetnatios done by members of the cohort. Before starting their work with their Prinicpal Investigators (PIs) to conduct their research, fellows also attended lectures and workshops during the first part of the fellowship with external partners from companies and other institutions to help them narrow down their research hypothses. As their summer continued, they selected different data sets to train AI models - data ranging from huge sets of public health data from the past 50 years to smaller sets from emerging fields of clinical medical research.

"This has been a very promising summer for a fellowship that is still fairly new." Said Haddadian after the presentations. "We are currently proposing a grant that would expand this opportunity for students from institutions that don't have access to a super computer and other facilities necessary for advanced computations."

Many of our fellows ended their presentations with really promising recommendations of how to continue their research projects and we're excited to see what they do next. Congratulations to all of our Machine Learning & AI Fellows!:

One of the students had some complications while printing their poster and the whole cohort spent the last 20 mins before the Symposium helping them to piece it back together.
